Nuclear physicist Bruce was exposed to a large volume of gamma rays during an accident, transforming him into the immense and powerful Hulk. While he has limited intellect, Hulk is far from evil. He fought to defend the Earth as a founding member of the Avengers.
His transformations are triggered by anger, and his uncontrollable rampages made society fear him. This led to the Avengers advising him to live in seclusion in the Savage Land, a hidden region in the South Pole.
Though Hulk does not seek solitude, he accepts it over facing more hatred and betrayal.
